If you're thinking about implementing AI in your business, do yourself a favor and ignore everyone selling AI tools. (And I say that as someone who uses Claude Code, Cursor, and half a dozen AI models every single day.) Tools change every six months. We were using Cursor before we switched to Claude Code. Before that it was something else. The tool is completely and utterly irrelevant. What actually matters is the ORDER you do things in. And this order has been the same for decades, long before AI existed: 1. PROCESS: Map out what your business actually does. Not what you THINK it does. What it ACTUALLY does, including the invisible stuff. 2. DATABASE: Build a single source of truth where every object in your business (clients, projects, deliverables, team members) relates to every other object naturally. 3. AUTOMATION: Now, and ONLY now, layer automation and AI on top. If you skip steps 1 and 2 and jump straight to "let me build an AI agent that handles my client comms"... you're going to have a terrifying time. Imagine I walked up to you and said: "Trust me, I built an AI bot. It's going to send all your Slack messages, do all your sales calls, and post all the content for your clients. Want me to turn it on?" Your answer should be absolutely not. Because even if it worked 95% of the time, the 5% where it screws up would destroy client relationships you spent years building. But if you had a clean process, a single source of truth, and clear visibility into what's happening at every stage... then deploying an AI agent on ONE specific step becomes a no-brainer. You can see what it's doing, check the output, and course-correct in real time. This is essentially the factory model. Break your business into an assembly line. Then decide which stations get a human and which stations get a machine. (And this approach has worked since the industrial revolution. AI didn't change the fundamentals.)
