I appreciate all the private and public messages. We are still in shock. For now we cannot go up to our house as it’s locked down as an evacuation area that is highly dangerous. My assumption is that our home is either fully gone or close to it. We will have to rebuild… Footage I’m seeing from the neighborhood appears to indicate that more than half the neighborhood is gone. This includes the preschool we were going to send our daughter to. For now we are safely staying away from the fire with family and are looking to find a rental property, deal with insurance, and rebuy a bunch of necessities that were lost in the fire. All while doing our normal duties of work and parenting. Life comes at you really f***ing fast sometimes. We are thankful for our family and friends, the brave firefighters who tried their best, and the future politicians who are going to finally do something about this problem and not waste time on plastic straws and gas stoves. If I may give one important piece of advice to you all, and I pray you never need it. Make sure you have a proper getaway bag at home and evacuation plan in case of emergency. We were ok, but 30 minutes more of packing and we’d have been in a very dangerous situation. Make sure you’ve got a bag with several days worth of supplies.
